In here Ohio, I'm happy football is almost over, I' freezed my butt off at the Last homegame (Chilly!!!!), here I am sitting at the end of the field trying to keep the 20d warmn, the flash warm, and my self warm. Wearing winter gloves, and a winter hat, 4 years in a row been doing this....I'm quite fine with out football (varstiy), I've been tackled, almost hit in the head by footballs, and a few Very close calls "glad I wasn't 5 feet down more" feelings and I didn't have the $4k camera ;)...Basketball... I'm waiting...nice warm gym, no harm....__________________

I'm never cold, as I wear thermals and several layers of polartech fleece. Hat and gloves help immensely. As for the "danger factor," I have one of my students with me at all times to knock me out of the way if the action spills over into the sidelines. I know how you feel, though. Football is starting to get a bit old, even though we're in the state playoffs. At least the remainder of our games will be in the daytime!
Our basketball season starts with the first girls' game in about 2 1/2 weeks, and I'm really excited. Just got the 85mm/1.8 from Dell a few weeks back and am looking forward to using it this season. It was great for volleyball, so I'm sure it will perform equally well with basketball.

No! Playoffs are here! Wooo!
Not to mention that this year has been warmer than last year so far. Here I've not had to have more than a jacket at a game, which I'm sure will change by Thanksgiving weekend and the State Finals. Last year I shot 3 of 4 finals games in the freezing rain. Cold I don't mind as much, cold and wet is no fun.

Thanks for this thread -- you guys have reminded me that basball's what I enjoy shooting. I've toyed with the idea of trying some football, basketball and/or soccer during the off season. However, I've reached the time in my life when if it's not fun I don't have to do it. What I really need to do between now and next Spring is take a break from shooting sports. I might try some nature and wildlife photography -- there are plenty of those subjects here in central Florida.

I might be shooting all 8 games. What are the facilities like? Is there a media room? Do the games draw much in the way of crowds?

It's a Big 10 campus so it is rather nice, there are a couple of press boxes if you're set up with credentials, they'll have lunch and stuff there. It's rather nice.
