On bestbuy.com, a Canon underwater housing for my A520 was like 250 dollars. Don't get me wrong, I love my camera and the photos it shoots, but I think it's far easier on your wallet and your mind (don't want water soaking in, the paranoia) to buy a one-time use underwater camera, and if you don't have one, a scanner.

Does anyone agree?

I have two of the Canon housings and they are great! Look around for a better price though. I think my last one was from Buy.com and it was under $200 close to $150 I think. Having the camera I use all the time rather than a crappy one time use makes a huge difference to me. I also use mine on the beach or anywhere water, sand, dirt, or whatever might get in the camera.

IMO it's better to buy a nikonos V like this for 600... which you can find used for 300-400 than to waste the money for housing.

And at 2+ meters you'll need a flash anyways, which automatically makes the A520 a toy in underwater photography.

If you just want to play around and convince yourself that you need flashes at any reasonable depth, then get this:

All of the intermediate cameras between that 12 dollar ones and the nikonos are just toys.

I just got an underwater housing for my s70. The cost was about $160 delivered. I plan on using the housing when snorkeling and in wet/muddy caves. For me, it is a much better option than one-time use film cameras. The photos are much better quality. I say that this is a good option for me because I have a use for it. If you only plan on using a camera underwater one every couple of years, it probably isn't a good investment.

I love my Housing. I have a s50, and the UW housing is allot of fun. I use it Diving, playing in the pool, going to the beach, and set skiing. It takes some getting used to, But once you have, you will be very happy.

Here are a few photos, just for fun!
