The National Front are a Small extreme rightwing political party in New Zealand. Last year their demonstration ended with violent scuffles. This year there were alot of police and unfortunatly from a photographers point of view no biffos.

Seeing a few red X's ;)
I'm sure they're good as usual.

Now I can see them, after looking on your webpage.. Do they allow remote access?
Edit: And BTW, they're great. :)
So they're anti-racist?

The NF are basicly a White Power type org, a bunch of punks and anarchists came down to yell at them. Sorry I didn't catch up with you over the weekend, still keen to catch up for a beer though.
For some reason I seem to have trouble linking from blogspot. If any of the more IT minded people round here can help me out that would be great.

Yeah, Tim and myself were both extremely busy. The wedding we shot on Saturday went on for 12 hours, and Sunday involved visiting a photographer/aviation enthusiast, going up the Cable Car, and using Tim's 100mm macro lens around the botanical gardens.
What day was this protest?
We were next to Govt House for some wedding shots.

Was on saturday, got the word last minuite and had to delay my trip into the hills. I really enjoy doing that sort of work. Its always a laugh hanging out with the other press guys. I learned about back button focus as well which was awsome.

 I take it the guys in black were the NF and the guy with the red mohawk was one of the anti racists??

Not that I have anything against "punk" styled people, I have many friends who'd probably be classified that way and my girlfriend has a bit of an alternative look with dreadlocks and all, but I wish these people would have some common sense when protesting for a good cause. It absolutely kills the credibility of something like the left wing when people think "oh those guys agains the national front? You mean the guy flipping the bird with the red mohawk?" and tends to do more harm to "the cause" by alienating the average citizen than doing any good at all. Buuut, that's really a whole other topic unto itself.
The pictures are excellent. You've done a good job combining journalism with artistry and managed to incorporate telling a story with something that's really pleasant to look at. Good job IMO, the first and last shots on your blog are likely my favorite. How did you get the shots that look like they're taken from a higher elevation?

Well He was one of the more interesting subjects to photograph.
Its also worth remembering that if these guys didn't come out and protest then the NF would have stood unopposed. Also it is more often than not Punks who have bore the brunt of Violence that the NF dish out.
That along with the fact that a NF member had made some extreemly anti-semitic comments to the guy with the hair (who happened to be jewish) I think some of the NF guys were lucky there was a line of copsc between them so it didn't escalate past the middle finger.
In saying that I get your point.

Lordy, is my neck of the world ever BORING compared with all that stuff in your blog ... but I would appreciate it if you'd post somewhere and embed links here so the images just show up. I shot Drew Carey last night (pictures in pipeline after boxing event, sigh) and will shortly go shot a HS Amercian football match. But no protests or clowns or weird airey-fairy political happenings for me in the last 35 years or so ... I do enjoy your pictures and wish they were bigger.

Its quite cool that even though you have to act professionally and not yell and scream at them like most people would like to, you can still piss them off by getting in their face with a camera :)
