I was just thinking the above. My other love at one time was once home cinema, the forum i used was a very large one dedicated to anything audio visual, photography included

Was never really anything AV related spoke of in the GC section.

It's not a complaint just an observastion, but i wonder why most of us, most of the time (me included) don't use general chat for none photography topics:confused:

Probably because

a) This is a photography forum

and

b) The description of "general chat" says

General chat
An area for subjects not appropriate for the other forums. Keep it related in some way to photography even if only in the abstract.

Well i never actually read that:)

But photo forum or not, general chat is just that isn't it.

The talk about photography section is basically no different from this one. I forget which one i'm in half the time

As i said it's not a complaint just an observation;)

Speaking of parents entertainment systems, I just picked my fathers old Component stereo system, at least whats left of it, plus some bits left by an uncle and a family friend.

I know have an AMP and Tuner that dates from the late 70s, a Tape deck that dates from the late 80s, and a CD player from the early 90s.
It all sounds absolutly fantastic played through a set of speakers from the early/mid 70s.

You think photography costs grands when you seriously get in to it, christ home cinema is off the scale!!!

I was going to buy a pair of B&W Nautilus speakers for £35,000 about $70,000. But i'd have no home to listen to them in

For that kind of money you could hire most artists to preform live for an hour!

I think there's a reason that this area is not "anything goes"...because sometimes discussions will get to be about religion, or politics, and it starts a war. Or somesites people would post a subject just to see how bad it rankled people....remember TimmyQuest? Besides, there's easy enough ways if you want to talk about your home entertainment setup, just say, "Let's post photos of our home theater setup!" :)

I'm not in to HC anymore to many things to worry about like neighbours, where to place 5 to 7 speakers in a small place. Still an audiophile, but not having children you forget that you must put your grills on your speakers when people visit with their kids. I really must have the tweeter fixed, waited too long for the parents to offer to have it repaired!

Uhh, what a shame about that. I also got B&W speakers, the DM 604 model.

you know I am looking for some speakers and have no idea what I am looking for. Not those packages that's for sure.

anway as for the general chat, the number of topics have picked up, compaired to the number that it used to have. I remember days when the number of topics would hardly move. But also in saying that the number of people that have visted here and that have joined has increased.

But I think you will find that anything that might start a war would be closed. the Mods around here are great and they keep the eyes open. (I hate to think how many that would be :) )

so any one got any great ideas on speakers. Looking around the $2500 mark

What is the 'tape deck' thing you speak of? Does it use something referred to as 'tapes', and are these related to the ancient technology known as 'film' in anyway? ;)

I had an old pait of late 70's speakers some time ago as well, great sounding for what they were, I had them matched with an old early 70's Amp, good combo. Couldn't find much to play of the 8 trach reel to reel that came with it though  (and OK, I just blew it I do actually know what tape is:D )

Have you borrowed CDS's key board?

My father had to buy a new record player the other day, I didn't even know they made them anymore. He spends his time remembering his youth listening to 40 year old LPs, like father like son, I spent some of my weekend remembering my youth listening to 10 year old tapes :D

Im useing a 233mhz P1 at work, It can barely sustain windoz2000NT, I don't think it could handle a google tool bar as well :(

However, I might just have to look at up dateing my googlebar at home :)
(espcialy since Im actualy worse than CDS, but he's more popular, so I can get away with it :D )
