Hi there,

I've had my S30 for a while now and am very pleased with it so far, but I've heard the ZoomBrowser software that comes with the camera can make the pictures slightly out of focus when you download them onto the PC via it?

On another forum people advised using another software? Could anybody tell me what type/name of software would be better if at-all?

Is this true? I have noticed on a few photos that they are not very sharp.

Cheers, Mark.

I've never heard that it does that. There are other issues that I've heard of, but nothing like that.

I haven't noticed any problems. I used Zoombrowser to download most of my pics, but I use Ulead Photoimpact to edit them. Zoombrowser shouldn't affect an image at all as long as it isn't edited from within Zoom Browser. RAW images can't be altered by Zoombrowser, but it can display them. RAW Image Converter version 2 is available for download from Canon, and it's an improvement over the previous version. I have noticed that my RAW images that I converted to JPEG are slightly sharper than the images saved directly to JPEG on the camera; but the difference is only noticeable when I zoom in very close...or crop down to a small portion of the original.

If you have a CF reader for your computer, try a comparison between images copied with Zoombrowser directly over the USB cable and images copied directly from the CF card with Windows Explorer.

I don't use Zoombrowser but what you're describing may just be a display issue: if you're zoomed out to fit on screen the program will have to do some interpolation and this could lead to the picture looking pixellated or otherwise distorted.
