Just got a strange problem with the S230, which I've not read about before. The view mode works fine... viewing pictures stored on the CF card is fine. Switch to picture or video mode... the lens extends, lens "cover" opens, but LDC is black (no error messages). Take flash picture, flash works, but resulting picture is black. Take regular picture, resulting picture is black. View mode... these pictures are black pictures... viewing pictures taken before problem is still fine. Any ideas? Thanks to all in advance.

This worked for me when my S230 got into a wierd viewing mode
You can reset all of the menu and button operation settings to default except for [Date/ Time], [Language], and [Video System].
Turn on the camera.
Press the menu button for longer than 5 seconds.
You'll get a message asking if you want to reset.
Press the OK.

Gerry... thanks for your quick reply. After posting last nite, I continued looking around and found that there is a factory reset. The camera is with my daughter in college, so I have to let her know what to do before I'll know if this will solve the problem. I'm glad it worked for you... it gives me hope, especially since all other camera functions work fine (and this is not the more common problems of broken LCD or stuck lens).
