Hello,
Wondering how I can find out what compact digital cameras are able to take pictures so that I can use them in the Adobe Photoshop using RGB 1998 working space. I have a Canon G2 which isn't that old but it's pictures will only work in the Adobe default, SRGBIE..... working space. Could I assume that newer cameras manufactured within the last year are able to work in Adobe 1998 color space?
Thanks

i read an interesting article here on
sRGB v Adobe 1998
my camera uses adobe 1998 (canon Pro1} but i must admit this has raised some questions in my mind
http://www.cambridgeincolour.com/tutorials/sRGB-AdobeRGB1998.htm
http://www.shootsmarter.com/infocenter/wc025.html
but that does not answer your question
have a look at some of the review site - should have it in spec

thanks for the reply. Found the first article interesting. I've looked at the web sites you listed but they don't list the cameras colour space only the format JPEG, TIFF, Raw, etc.

for the pro1 & 20D in specification colour space its listed
http://www.steves-digicams.com/2004_reviews/pro1.html
http://www.steves-digicams.com/2004_reviews/20d.html
but your right not on some others, but as i dont know the cameras I have no idea if they should be listed - seems to be problem.
However, also looking on the canon website the pro1 info is listed - nothing on G6 - so maybe no info = srgb only
what camera are you interested in - maybe search for the "user manuals"
canon are here

and

and

nikon
you may find here - although sometimes a serial number is required

Etaf,
I was hoping to find a camera a little smaller than the two you mentioned. I have a Nikon D70 and was looking for something I could stick in my jacket. I was told by Nikon that all of their compact cameras only shoot in sRGB and that their digital Slr's shoot in both colour spaces. I guess this is true for other manufactures. One suggestion was to look for cameras that shoot in RAW which may be an option.
Thanks again.

would appear so - RAW may only appear on larger camera the canon G series seems to have RAW.
some of the S series too
PowerShot S45 & S60
but the S80 and S70 dont seem to have raw on the canon site
but on this review the s70
http://www.steves-digicams.com/2004_reviews/s70.html
its listed as raw and in conclusion to
also here is listed raw for s70
http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/specs/Canon/canon_s70.asp
but not for s80
