This is a getting to know you type thing that I thought would be fun.

Here are the (unofficial) rules:

1. the portrait can be of any part of yourself; therefore, it does not have to show your true identity! Like an ear or a hand could be a self portrait.

2. the photo must be taken by you!

3. The portrait can be rendered in whatever way you choose, ie. photoshop filters.

4. Please keep the photos to a reasonable size for those of us who have the archaic dial up (read s-l-o-w) modem.

Let the games begin! O.K. I'm going to be brave and start by posting my self-portrait for which I used the cutout filter in Photoshop.

Hey - thanks for participating Borch, Chardyboy and Jane. I'm looking forward to seeing more of me fellow G3 comrades here! All great photos!

Borch - I like the (almost eerie) effect. I did something similar yesterday in Photoshop with stacking an original color and a copy of it as a b&w (which was on top)in layers and then erasing through to just my eyelids and lips. The effect was almost clownish because the color was nearly red!

Guys,

Would you let me know, how do you place images with your post.
I'm talking about actual image, not the link you would paste.
I have a small gallery, but I would like to place a single photo perhaps.

Thank you.

It was taken with G3 with full 15 second exposure.

just put
YOUR IMAGE HERE
(but without spaces(it wouldn't show up if I hadn't used them)

EDIT: At least that's what you're supposed to do. But It doesn't seem to work.

Hey Danyal,

You have to have a website to post them on first of all. www.fotopic.net offers 250 mg of free space for photos! then you simply go to the Help menu and it tells you how to embed the photos, real simple.

Look forward to seeing your self-portrait!

Cowboy,

LOL! :D I was thinking the same thing about your post...I deleted mine and I thought I also deleted yours as well :)

I retracted my post because I did some digging around and found that there are some pbase images that can be imbedded so what I said was not entirely correct. It seems like some people can and some people can not. I also noticed that sometimes it takes forever for the image to download and in the meanwhile, you get a "X" box in its place until the download is complete.

I thought that you must have walked into it, but the trails don't go to the edge of the frame. Did you pop up from below!? :-)

thanks new girl and dana.

I'm a quick guy. so yeah I just kind of jumped out. What I did was use a timer so I was standing there when the exposure began and then about 10 seconds into the exposure, I bolted out of there.

I have also done something similar to this: http://www.pbase.com/image/15240459
with myself, but can't seem to find where it is right now.
That one there is one I did with my brother.

P.S. I guess Bpase does not allow direct linking or something. Maybe only if you are paying them. I only have about 30 photos on Pbase though.

It is fun to look at!

Most likely he shot the same scene repeatedly (camera on tripod, maybe used remote so he wouldn't jostle it at all) and had his brother stand in a different spot for each shot. Then he could combine the images in Photoshop. Voila - magic! :-)

But maybe Dan had another method?

I guess it does rather look fake. There was that nasty storm coming in behind me and it had started to rain, so I turned around to go back inside the house and all of the windows had perfect mirror images in them. I couldn't see anything inside, so I figured I'd snap a few of myself with the nifty background ;)

From reading all the posts above, why do photogrpahers never have pictures of themselves?

Oviously the people to have the most photo's of them selves are models and people with a huge ego, but since its what we 'do' why do we never have any of us?

I know i don't because i prefer to take the pic, just seems odd. 1000's of pics and never any of us, well hardly ever.

Part of the reason is that no one else in my family knows how to work an SLR, hence I am the only one taking photos. I never was a self-timer kind of guy.

Awesome! I love looking at self portraits! :)

It's true, I noticed a lot of serious photographers seldom take any pictures of themselves. I take pictures of myself because I'm a cheap model (I don't need model release forms heh).

Here's a recent one of me (http://blackdaisies.com/noire/gallery/human/minerva1)

I've only jumped at two DZs. Lower Light, about 45 min outside Adelaide. The other Murray Bridge, about an hour and a half out, but that was just for a weekend. I haven't jumped for a few months. Got to wait till I have more money coming in (not the cheapest hobby in the world). I'm in Darwin now, so a whole new DZ to meat and great :) (once I get my reserve repacked)! Nice to meet another jumper.
BTW, is your daughter in the fulltime service? I've been a medic in the Australian Army for the last 8 years.

It's a huge slab of granite, actually. And, on the 22 mile round trip on the John Muir trail, you'll pass more than a dozen lakes, a few streams and several waterfalls. It looks dry in that picture, but there is more than enough water up there. I did this hike on July 8th, and there was still a lot of snow there, too, though none on the summit. One of the lakes just below the summit was still frozen.

You can find the rest of the pictures from this trip here:

Hey Chris, that's a rad picture! I'm wondering how you got a shot like that.. I checked out your stuff on that bytephoto site, they're pretty cool. Lol.. actually it's "Seth", when I lived out in Ocala people couldn't remember my name, so they called me Sean instead, and that's how that came about.
