We currently use a couple of D60's in studio and have recently purchased new computers for them. We have now run into a problem with the usb2 connections. When camera and computer are hooked up usb and set up in studio with powerlights the camera fires correctly but there is no flash! We tried reversing polarity on the sync cords to no avail and upon further inspection found that it was the usb cord and connection at fault. As soon as the usb connection is touched to the computer it fires the strobes and basically grounds them out rendering them inoperable from that point forward. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

try switching to a radio controlled shoe mount flash firing system like the pocket wizard http://www.pocketwizard.com/ or to an infrared system like the Wein SSR or SSRjr. http://www.weinproducts.com/ssr.htm

Both of those options use the hot shoe as opposed to the pc socket which may clear up your problem. I would suggest a test using a canon flash on the hot shoe. First connect the camera to the computer then attach the flash. fire the camera via the computer software. If the canon flash fires at the correct time then either of the above devices will work with your opperation.

I personally use the SSRjr system but will be switching to the pocket wizard eventually. I feel the radio system will be more reliable for my purposes.
Lemme know how it all works out for you.

Good luck to you.
