I have not been using continuing focus for my shots. However, I am not having much luck with sports action shots even shooting at 1/250 and above - probably due to the aperture setting. If I move to continous focus, would I have better luck? and/or would the 'drain' on the battery not be worth it (that last part is probably a non issue  since I always carry spares.)

Is there any situation when I should be use a single shot focus or is it worth worring about and just stay continous.

Many thanks

Larry

I have used the Continuous Focus mode on my S2 when I am taking panning shots. But I use the single shot focus most of the time.

The single bike shot is using continuous focus mode at F5.6 and 1/320 sec.
I followed this bike out of the corner to get a panning shot at a slower shutter to show a sense of speed.

The shot of multiple bikes is using single shot focus at F4.0 for 1/1000 sec. For this shot, I prefocused on a spot in the corner and then got the bikes as they came through.
