A wider angle - lens Q once again

I have a feling that this kind of question will soon make people start trowing tomatoes, but here it goes:

I want I wide angle lens that compares to the quality I know from my 50mm/1.8. So canon 24/2.8 or 28/2.8 are my immidiate choices. Anyone have these lenses, opinions to go and samples to show?

I don't think you're going to find any wide angles that are as good as the humble 50mm F1.8. The closest you'll get will be the Sigma 24mm F2.8 and certainly the best value. It's considered to be marginally better than the Canon 24mm F2.8.
