Hi could someone recommend some low cost tripods which are also compact?

isn't really a tripod...just a clamp. But it is compact. It will clamp to rails, car windows, tables, etc. It's great if you don't want to carry a tripod, but the disadvantage is that you can't adjust the height or position, unless you can move the object it is clamped to. REI also sells them. (REI also has compact tripods designed for backpacking.

I also have a little table-top tripod that I got at Best Buy for $15 or so. Unfortunately I don't find it that useful. Sometimes you just need a real tripod.
