Got bored waiting for a friend so to fill in time just did the tourist thing :)
The Boat was built for the 2000 olympics tourists and now does lunch and dinner cruises on Sydney Harbor.
Sydney Harbor is a vast inland waterway also called Port Jackson. It's opening to the ocean is relatively narrow.

PS. Apologies but the link to the first version broke and it won't let me delete it.

Nice one Eland. A litte less light on the roof of the Opera building?

Thanks Henk,
It is hard as the building is covered with glazed tiles.
Anyway here is a subdued version. Maybe a polarizer is the answer.

I think that you could have just stepped down the exposure to avoid the blown out white in the ship and adjusted gamma as necessary in photoshop. I like ship photos but you would think in my line of work I'd get more. :D
If you can't make it to B.C. I'll just have to keep bringing B.C. to you. :)

Hi Colin
In full summer afternoon sunlight the top image is actually accurate.
Both the boat and the op house are exactly as they appeared.
The boat is gloss white and the op house is covered with glazed light tiles.
I feel dropping exposure would have made the sky and water too dark and made the distant buildings into silhouettes.
In the second version for Henk the op house is actually incorrect. It would look like that on a dull overcast day.
With no trip to BC in sight I look forward to more of your fine images of that lovely area, Colin.
With kindest regards

Is my monitor bad or does the sky look a little purple? It looks like there is too much red in the sky or maybe it is my antique monitor. Nice shot otherwise.

Rudi and RobnDave
That is what is called "Poetic Licence".
This was not a planned shot but just filling in time as I said.
The colour temperature was very high, about 7,500 K.
Consequently the image was much too blue and useless.
I added a little red to drop the temp to around 5000 K.

Hal,
I wasn't complaining about the colour cast, I was just commenting that it is a little on the cool side. That said, I know that it does get BRIGHT here, so I was not even fully aware of it until someone else commented on the fact.
BTW, *all* my shots, even my snapshots, look professional! (And if you believe THAT, I have a great deal on a bridge if you're interested... :) ).
