I just got the PS A520, and I've installed the software, and I have all of the system requirements. Each time I actually go to turn on the camera to initiate the USB, it gives me a message window stating "Updating hardware information database" and shows a status bar at 0% and it never responds, and sometimes even locks up my whole system. I have Windows ME. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the software far too many times to count.

I have tried to install it without the software and through my computer's control panel. I even downloaded the driver off of the Canon website thinking it might be updated. It all leads me to the same window re: updating the hardware.

I emailed the Canon tech support, and am in that process now of answering their specific questions. I even contacted Gateway computers thinking it was a system issue. The only advice they had for me was to upgrade my system's memory and try a different USB cord.

I had another brand digital camera that installed just fine, and I used the same USB port for this new camera (differnt USB cable, though). I just don't get it! Anyone else have this issue?

That's weird. What windows version are you running?

I have Windows XP - I have an A520, as well, and I never even had to install the camera's software. XP recognized the camera immediately and the pictures upload really quickly.

Windows ME. I've tried it both ways, with and without the software installed.

I think you should use a card reader and forget using the cord. No software to install. Acts just like another drive.

Windows ME was plagued with problems as soon as is hit the store shelves. Upgrading to windows xp is the best, but by no means the cheapest solution.

DOES THE A520 COME WITH A INSTRUCTION MANUAL AND IS IT USB COMPADABLE?
