Is anyone out there using a Sigma 28-70mm f2.8 with a 10D? What do you think of the combo?

Hi,
I've got a Sigma 24-70/2.8 EX and a Sigma 70-200/2.8 EX HSM for my 10D.
The 24-70 isn't that bad as it't made sometimes but in direct comparison to the 70-200 (both at 70mm and F2.8 or F4) the 70-200 is sharper.
Last weekend I took about 350 pics with the 24-70 at a gymnastics meet (all with F2.8 and ISO 800 or 1600 without flash). Lots of them are misfocused but others are correctly focused. So I still beleve the problems mainly are my unexperience with the 10D and taking sports fotos at all.
Comparisons at home with both lenses and flash gave me correctly focused pictures. But the 70-200 pics are sharper.
The AF speed of the 24-70 is better than I expected for a non USM/HSM lense. But of course it's noticeable slower and louder then the HSM of the 70-200.
My decision for Sigma's 24-70 was relatively easy as there was no decision at all. I wanted a "all day" lense which I could use for sports occasionally too. So the first "must" was F2.8 or better. The second need was an accepteable starting length between 20mm and 24mm and a usefull end length (20-40 sounds a bit short to me). The only possible solution beside the Sigma lense was the Canon 24-70/2.8 L USM. Well exapt for the price that I couldn't afford. So I was stuck with the Sigma 24-70 as long as I don't want to buy two lenses.
The Sigma 24-70/2.8 probably is a good lense for the price if you need the F2.8. But I would buy the Canon 24-85/3.5-4-5 USM if you don't need the high starting aperture at all.
