View Full Version : Shutter \"Line\"

I recently purchase a G3 and after inspecting it closely, I notice a thin line on the shutter area near the bottom third. The line is not straight, it has a subtle curve to it. I've seen it on another G3 in the store, but Canon technicians tell me it shouldn't be there. You can only see it when looking throught the lens from the bottom of the camera to the top (i.e., on an angle). Is this where it opens up or is my camera broken? The technician's email really discourages me; I had a Nikon Coolpix 885 before this that was definitely broke in this area.
Thanks for the help.

I've checked mine and couldn't appercieve your line. But I think if you looked at my camera you could see the line. I do not think two cameras (yours and the other in the store) could have the same curious inprfection at the same time, same place. The technician didn't see what you saw, because he didn't understand what to looking for. I think he could see the line if you could show it to him. Then he would say:oh, it is quite normal! Can you check a third G3: if you see the line again, this must be definitaly in order. I understand you are worried, so I suggest to examine a third G3. It is absolutely impossible three cams to have the same rare defect at the same time, same place. And: IF your camera makes good, sharp photos, and all the three cams you check have the line, you can surely sleep well.

If this is what you see I wouldn't worry about it.
Oops, I have the captions reversed. The left is G3 Off and right is G3 On.

You're awesome! Thanks for taking the time to do that. I tell you though, the technicians that I talked to at Canon were absolutely clueless about this. I told the one guy to look through the lens and he was looking through the viewfinder.
Thanks again.
