Pat,
AFAIK, any 'E' error numbers refer to a particular problem with the electronic/mechanical working of the camera. So best thing to do is to call canon or drop into a canon dealer.Unless someone can suggest anything better.

I get the E28 on my S20. I rang Canon and they have no idea what E28 is. I have looked at the posts from the guys with S10's showing the same error, but none of their fixes seem to work or I cant find what they are talking about. I am wondering if it is time to put my S20 to rest and purchase something new like a G5 or my other choice a Coolpix 5700.

you can't solve the problem yourself. your lens is defective! when it comes out you'l see that inside the lens there's a little shutter that won't open and that's why it gives E28

Looking through other parts of the forum, some suggested that you "thump" the camera (bottom down) either in the palm of your hand, or on a padded hard surface (such as a mouse pad). The E28 error comes from a loose cable that attaches to the lens mechanism and the "thump" will supposedly re-attach it !?! Well, I tried it and it worked. The permanent fix is to open up the camera and re-solder the connection... I'll wait to do that as a last resort.
