Hello

as so many other people here i also got the focussing probs.
i already got my second cam. the first was exchanged because of focussing problem at the shop i bought it (after i had to wait for about a month because canon wouldn't ship any).
I got my second one now and i still got the problem, but only with my sigma lens.

go to: http://www.egocat.com/canon/sharp2/

you will see 2 crops with exif data

so did anyone of you have a similar problem with a sigma lens?

I also got another problem with the new cam: there is a line of 4 blue pixels in each picture. you notice them mostly when using high iso setting (400 and above)

go to : http://www.egocat.com/canon/

for examples..

all in all i must say that i am pretty disappointed with my canon camera until now. Before that i used to work with minolta si 600 classic analogue cam and was quite happy for several years with that...

to me it also seems that autofocus isn't always working accurately on canon. you could take 2 photos of one object with same settings and the one would be sharp the next one out of focus.

another problem is also that when trying to set the focus manually, i actually never get it right. it looks ultrasharp in the viewfinder and looks way blurry on photo.

does anyone have any ideas what i might do wrong? is there a difference in autofocus between minolta and canon?

any help would be welcome

thanks a lot

The answer to your question is yes. However, from your EXIF data I could see that you're using the AI servo AF mode. That means that your camera is constantly focusing, and there is no guarantee your focus will be ok at any particular moment. How about trying the test sheet again with One Shot AF?

I put the photo oi took with one-shot af on my webpage too...

it actually is slightly better but still a big frontfocus i'd say..

so you say other people had probs with sigmalenses.. also focussing ones? what did they do? sold lens and bought canon?

thanks

There are a few threads which already discuss the problems people have been having. For example, take a look at:

Sigma 70-200 EX front focus on 10D (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=10843)

Sigma 70-200 EX HSM (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=9865)

10D Sigma Soft Focus (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=10271)

Those are the three threads I've noticed, there may be others.

I've emailed Sigma regarding the issue, and am waiting for their response to my latest email. I've detailed the response I got from them earlier in the "Sigma 70-200 EX front focus on 10D" thread.
