Here are some photos I took the other night at Thrice's show in Boston. This was my first time taking live concert photos with a Digital SLR (Canon EOS Digital Rebel w/ stock lens, no flash). Let me know what you think, any constructive criticisms would be appreciated! I'll be honest in saying I really didn't know what I was doing this time around! Haha.

Well, as you'll have noticed, light can be difficult in these circumstances. The kit lens doesn't help much ;) There are some potentially nice images here, but you need to get a faster shutterspeed IMHO. I'ld get a 50/1.8 and use as-high-as-it-goes ISO.
I think 5, 15 and 18 are very nice for a first time...

yea, i was pretty much huge idiot with the iso and shutter speed as mentioned in this thread http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?p=889841&posted=1#post889841
next time around i should yield much better results (i hope haha).

Nice shots not bad for the kit lens :)

Great shots considering the lens. They do have a raw feel to them, which I like.

yeah, i think a nicer lens might show up on my christmas list ;) . first I really need to master using my camera body though and getting comfortable changing the settings for different situations. the pictures above were taken at 400 iso (i just had it in the normal program mode with the flash off) so my shutter speeds were way too slow a lot of the time. any lens recomendations?

i'm taking photos at John Anderson's (singer of the band "Yes") solo show at the Avalon this Sunday. Hopefully I'll yield better results this time around. I'll be sure to post those as well.

A great series. The downside has been clarified and you are better prepared than before. We await your next exhibit.
