Batteries for 420EX and G3

With the 420EX flash on my G3 (great combination) I notice the 420 instruction book only mentions using alkaline, nickel-hydride, manganese and lithium batteries for the flash.

What about NIMH batteries which are widely advertised as being suitable for flash and have good characteristics I think?

Could I damage the flash? Anyone have any experience of using these?

Yes they can be used (Nickel-Hydride= NiMH). I use Panasonic 1600mAh rechargeable NiMHs on my 420ex and they last a pretty long time.
