I took a great 6-photo landscape mode sequence of the Rockies in raw mode that I would like to piece together and then send out for printing. I think I have a technique already for the assembling process, but...

1) Is a 6-photo pano possible, or should I shorten to 2 3-photo panos?
2) What should be the canvas dimensions? 10x65 for a final cropping of 8x60 inch??
3) Has anyone had a lab print something like this? If so which one? Approximate cost?

Thanks, everyone for whatever help you can lend. :-)

Yes, a 6-shot pano is possible.

When I used to stich by hand I would enlarge the canvas one step at a time. So I would make it big enough for 2 images and stitch them, then enlarge the canvas enough for 3 images and stitsch them, and so on.

I have done my first pano and am going to get it printed to see the quality. I will try a couple of different places. But I did find this place.

I have no experience with them but when I do I will let you know.

I am just curious, which software did you use for stitching? I used Realviz and
found it to work well. A bit of a learning curve, but nice.

I use PTGui mostly, though I've also used PTAssembler and tried Hugin.

Thanks for the quick info guys. I have PhotoStitch which came with the 20D software, but I prefer doing it by hand...

Go to http://www.cs.ubc.ca/~mbrown/autostitch/autostitch.html and try out their stitching program. I really like it. It was able to pull off some pans that would just leave PhotoStitch dazed and confuzed. Really simple to use. Just a little slow even w/ 2 gigs of RAM, but it's usually worth the wait. I've done some pans which included about 25-30 images and it worked them out perfectly.

If you are willing to put some time and effort in it, try PTGui !
The results will be amazing I can promise you.
You're welcome to have a look at my flickr account for some examples.
Even the macro stitches i have experimented with last weekend came out wonderful !
Quite a bit of work though....
