I've been reading some reviews of Windows XP, and noticed that neither Microsoft nor Hewlett Packard will be writing drivers to support my scanner (a HP 5p). Apparently this is due to its advanced age - fully four whole years... Lucky my wife didn't abandon me so easily on our fourth anniversary.
I read the following on ZDNet:
"If you can't find a Windows XP device driver for a specific device but do have access to a Windows 2000 driver, you can use the Windows 2000 driver in the new operating system."
I'm in luck! There is a Windows 2000 driver for my scanner. Interestingly, the HP website doesn't say anything about my being able to use it.
I know it's a bit early to ask, with XP only having been launched a couple of days ago, but I thought I would ask if anyone has encountered driver issues relating to the new operating system. Many of us are using a variety of card readers, cameras, graphics tablets and scanners which may not be the standard stuff available at the corner PC store. This forum might prove invaluable in getting people's newly XP'd systems back up to speed again.
As a UNIX software developer I'm not usually eager to jump on board with Microsoft's latest new idea, but the reviews of XP do seem to be quite good (said through clenched teeth). Anyone had a go with it yet?
