The 70-200mm f/4L IS is my favorite dog and people lens when I have enough space to shoot with it. Outdoors I always use fill flash and indoors, I always bounce flash with a Joe Demb Flash Diffuser Pro (dembflashproducts.com).

I also love the 70-200 f4 IS outdoors. In the studio I get good results with my Tamron 28-75 - it's a nice range for portraits. However, I've also had some terrific pet portraits with my 60 macro.

The best animal photo I have ever taken was with a 500mm f4 LIS
That is a little excessive though and most of my animal photos are taken with 24-70L, 50 1.8 or 2.5 macro, or I really like the Sigma 10-20 for dogs
Getting down to their level seems to do more for my pics than the gear I use to take them

70-200 f2.8L is my go to lens for most of my pet photography.

^ This. Except I used it on FF... havent done any Pet Portraits w/ it on my crop yet outside of snaps of my cats in my house... but from what I see... I LOOOVE it. :D

Editing this: I'm back to FF, love my Pet Portraits on FF, Frame Worthy regardless of lens.

Hey y'all, I'm somewhat of a newbie when it comes to pet photography. I'm completely comfortable shooting nature, people, some sports as well. For the life of me, I can't get a damn dog (with love) to stay still for a couple seconds!

I saw this photo collection and was really inspired:

Well I only have two lenses the 50mm 1.8, and 85mm 1.8 and so far I've only used the 50mm because I just bought the 85mm and it's on its way. :)

Right now I use all the lenses I have. Can't really pick a favorite. I love a telephoto when I'm trying to get action shots, but the 18-55 and the 50mm are great for if the dog is laying down or not moving much. Eventually I want to get rid of the 28-135 and go for the 18-135, or the 18-200 so I can keep a good range without having to switch lenses all the time.
