It looks like the i950 wins but I have a question. The S830 prints direct from camera. Is there an advantage( other than the obvious)? Is there a disadvantage? Thanks

The disadvantage is that from the G3 the downloading to the printer is kinda slow, because it has the slower USB 1.1 connection. That's about it as far as I know.
Good luck!

I have an i950 - It's outstanding for pictures, acceptable but not great for text. I used to have a HP Photosmart 1000. The HP let me plug in a memory card and print pictures directly on the printer. I found that I always either downloaded my pictures to keep on the hard drive to burn a CD later, or used Photoshop to do something or another ( sharpen, auto-level, brighten, contrast, etc.), so that I never used the direct print feature on the HP. Now that I have the i950 I haven't missed the direct print feature of the HP at all.
Why did I switch? The cost of the ink cartridges on the HP were killing me. I tried refilling, but about 50% of the time one color or another wouldn't work after refilling. Then I had to replace the whole cartridge. The seperate ink cartridges on the i950 is a tremendous money saver - and they are easier to refill.

Thank you. That's what I was thinking. If you download straight to the printer, there's not much you can do in between. Looks like the i950 wins. Thanks again. Art

I have the S830D and expected to use the direct downloading. Guess what...! After 2 months of usage and hundreds of excellent prints, I have never used the direct loading but go through the computer the old fashioned way. It just doesnt seem practical.

I have the i950 and the pictures it prints are great. It's also very fast. I agree with the not so great text, which is why I have kept my old Epson 760 and use that alongside the Canon i950 for text and kids stuff. The generic ink for the Epson is also real cheap.

I'm not sure what the max. print that you can get from the i950 is, but if you are looking for large prints (and of course smaller ones too) that look incredible, I highly reccomend the Canon S9000 :)
