You know how it is. Whenever there's a hot item that's selling like hot cakes, EVERYBODY wants a piece of the action. Sometimes, even when they don't have any items in stock!!!!!

In the not too distant future, dSLRs will be the norm and we will no longer get the oooo's and aaaah's that we get now when people see our dSLRs hanging around our necks.

Personally, I think it's awesome to see this. The next generation of cameras should be less expensive then!!

I just looked at the link and it says out of stock. It is hard to understand Canon's decision to sell thru Walmart, Gateway, Dell, etc. While it opens up new channels, it hurts Canon's dealer network of dedicated camera retailers. Most Canon dealers can't keep 10D's in stock and here Canon is supporting a new sales channel the is not well suited to supporting customers with a complex product. Will Walmart salespeople be able to help customers understand how to use their camers? Will they be able to help customers understand issued like "back focus"?

I'm not against change but I don't think this one is a good long-term strategy for Canon.

Wal-Mart will take anything back ;) I once bought a fishing pole for a trip and broke it. I lost the reciept to it and when I returned two weeks later they refunded my money. I can see 10D bodies getting exhanged/returned left and right because people will think they have a focus problem.

Well of course they will not be able to answer those technical questions, they never have been and never will be, but this is just the first phase of dSLRs coming more and more into the normal "Consumer-Joe's" hands.

Now everyone can look like a pro. "Look" being the keyword there.

And I don't think it compromises Canon in any way shape or form. They sell their 35mm SLRs there, why not this one?

Meanwhile the pros and pro-ams will still choose to go where there is always photographic intelligence: Our local pro photo stores.

Don't worry, It's okay. The sky is not falling.

Don't worry. Its' not the equipment that makes a pro. It's how you use your equipment.
On the ohter hand if you'd like to look more pro (nobody knows if you really can handle your pro-like equipment) than the ones who buy from WalMart you can allways buy longer teles from your local camera shop.

You can get the same price at SAMYs and it is in stock ...at least it was 2 weeks ago when I got mine and the sales help does know what they are doing, at least at my local SAMYs.

Apple employees are being offered Canon at a discount. The 10D would cost me $1349 + tax but I don't have a spare cent to spend :(

I may be an idiot but my 10D seems to have a focusing problem.. big time. I was scouring the web looking for others with the same problem. Is there NOT a problem? If not.. what am I doing wrong?

I think there is a problem. Its ok at f5.6 or smaller stops because depth of field helps out. I would still buy the camera though. Its a great camera but you may have to send it in to get it calibrated. I'm sending mine in soon.
