"I Saw The Light"

For a large version (not a very large file because of all the black) see:

I Saw The Light (http://home.earthlink.net/~cowboypoetwannabe/images/combined-med.jpg)

This is a combination of many shots taken at 3 exposure settings. Each are 5 minutes apart. G3, full zoom, ISO 50, tripod, no tele.

Since I have no teleconverter, I went for timing instead of image quality. Dana and new girl on the bloc have some great ones over here (I hope they post more!):

I was far too late to get a great series like that CPW! Very nice :)

Here's the clearest of the few I was able to take. Moving clouds and bad timing limited me ,. but I was pretty happy that I got this;

That's a GREAT shot, CyberDyneSystems. You and new girl have the best whole moon shots! Keep up the good work.

I see it was with a tele. Can you give details?

The two that I posted were my best, so that's probably all that I'll post. Let's work on another project! Ideas?

I've got an idea, but let's let this Lunar Eclipse one run its course before posting the new one, OK? The idea is:

"What is it?"

That is, a close-up (not extreme cropping, however) of something familiar that can be verified with another photo, but the close-up doesn't really look like what we envision the object to look like.
Example:
I missed a great shot of ice cubes with entrained air bubbles the other day. A macro of the bubbles compared to a full shot of the glass with soda and ice was what I had in mind.

See what you think...and go ahead and post your 2 pics here, OK?

I have a Sigma 50-500mm zoom. (on a 10D) It was set to 500mm wide open (f/6.4? ) I have a cheesy little quantaray tripod,. (much too liteweight for the 10D and that lens lol )

So most of the shots were pretty bad. The funniest part was I had a narrow shot out an open window,. and the moon passed behingd a building just minutes after that shot :)

I set the timer "Drive mode" so I wouldn't shake the Camera,.. and I let the camera set the shutter speed,. which was about 8 to 10 seconds.

I was in such a rush,. (i read the post at 11:25 and then ran down the hallway with the camera) that I forgot to set it to take raw. So its jpeg fine.

I love your "I saw the light" progression! Awesome! It should be in an astronomy book.

too strange - i had a similar idea to yours - to photograph something upclose that would be hard to readily identify and have a guessing game. Sounds like fun!
