New to Digital. Runtime error with software

I just bought my first digital camera a Power Shot SD300. Besides not knowing most of what is on the menus, I installed software disk and have Microsoft C++ runtime error.
Can anyone help me. I have windows XP and HP computer. No one seems to have answers.
Anyone out there have some ideas? Thanks

Type the exact error message into Google, usually you get some info. Try also same with "Search the Knowledge Base" in http://support.microsoft.com/
