Nifty 50 - Compaing Mk. I to Mk. II

Does anyone have experience with both 50 f/1.8s, the Mk. I and Mk. II? I'd like to have a cheap 50mm, but I don't think I'll ever have enough use for a it to get the 1.4. I'm much more likely to hang on to the 1.8 for life.

With that in mind, is the build quality of the Mk. I worth the extra money? Is the picture quality as good as the Mk. II?

They are both capable of fine photos. However, the 1.4 version has a slight advantage and over a lifetime, should be worth the extra!

To answer your question, it's just the metal over plastic that is really different between the two.
