WIA and TWAIN drivers

I am new...green....clueless.
Just got camera. Software doesn't work due to microsoft C++ runtime error.
Do not having these drivers have anyting to do with it?
What do these drivers do?

WIA is needed in XP and TWAIN is needed in all other windows OS,eg, 95,98,me,2000.
Are you trying to get the pix out of the memory card???
If you are, its easier and faster if you use a Flash Memory Reader/Writer (preferablely USB 2.0 or Firewire if you have either one on your computer)
If you are trying tether (take picture while connected to the computer) then you will definitely need the WAI and TWAIN drivers. They are communication translator/protocols to & from camera/PC. Its is also needed if you want to dump the pix directly from camera to PC.
