I'll be going to Vancouver for a software conference next week and will be spending Friday afternoon and Saturday sightseeing and photgraphing the area. It's been 13 years since I've been there and in 1990 most of my time was in Whistler.
Any suggestions for a day trip? I thought I might take a ferry to Vancouver Island to the city of Victoria, and maybe also spend some time at Butchart Gardens.
I suppose it will depend on the weather. If it's lousy, maybe I'll take a drive to the mountains and wander around Whistler again.
Any suggestions from my buddies up north?
Thanks!

Vancouver Island/Victoria is wonderful - spent a weekend there at a little B&B many years ago and still have wonderful memories of the city and great people there...
There is a great old hotel right at the harbor in Victoria (called the Fairmount Empress) that would be fun to visit and shoot, as well the government building there if you're into structures at all.

from this site, which seems very good for lots of info on Vancouver:

If you have the time to ferry over to Vancover Island, Victoria and Butchart Gardens are your best photo ops. In Vancover head for Gas Town & Canada Place, Stanley Park & Queen Elizabeth Park. Near Canada Place you can take the Seabus over to the North Vancover for some great pictures of the city. You can also take the tram to the top of Grouse Mountain for great city pictures. This city is heaven for camera buffs...when the sun is out.
