I've been quite touched this week, by the dramas through a friend.
Basically, she only just found out she was pregnant 4 weeks back, and suffered toxemia, and had to have a caesarian, as her kidneys were failing, and other organs were under a lot of strain. Baby Lilly was born 4 days ago, weighing 1510 grams/3 lb 4oz, and 33 weeks into pregnancy.

I was able to get into the baby ICU, and get a couple of shots. The shots aren't good quality, due to high iso, and no time to set up shots. Had to shoot a few rapidly, and close the room up again.

Lilly is doing great, and mother looks as healthy as normal. A few days ago, I was fearing for losing a workmate. :(

So thankful the quick doctors can preform anything, and bring out healthy babies after complications.

Absolute miracle. When you consider how tiny those newborn diapers are, that baby looks TINY! Nice shots and they will surely look back at these photos and cherish them as Lilly rapidly grows up. Glad to hear everyone is doing well!

That's the essence of life. And one of the most beautifull things in photography.

God bless this little creature and the familie. Good luck.

Life is so fragile and good health taken for granted . The miricle of these little ones is always so amazing...even in her tinyness, she is so beautiful...these photos could not be better! I like the shot of her legs,,,all I could think of is she's gonna be a long distance runner......God bless the doctors who gave their time (years) to learn the skills to save babies.............

I hope everything works out for little Lilly and mom. Thanks for sharing the pics. The last one kind of hurts to look at.

Nice work Wazza.

Thanks for the comments.

I actually commented, whilst I was there, looked like she could be a runner. She was running in the air, when I took that shot. Too bad, I couldn't frame her feet all in. I was using 50mm 1.8 for that shot. Had a quick change to 17-40 as well.

I have all these nice photo ideas, but only great when she's this small.. But needs to be in the moderated incubator, at an exact temperature. Too easy for her to get sick in this small, fragile state.

These photos are wonderful..... they do not have to be technically perfect to portray life at it's frailest and you've sone that well, here. God bless her and her family... I hope you can take a few more shots along her path to recovery. Keep us posted.

Thanks so much everyone, for caring.

It'll be good, being giving the chance, and trust to take lots of pics of her, during her young age. I think my workmate trusts me enough, to do some shots over the coming months.

Thanks for sharing Wazza. I too had a premie. My fourteen year old daughter was born 7 weeks early, weighed 4 lbs. A very stressful time for us, but now she towers above me and calls me a shrimp. Don't worry about the quality of the pictures. Mother and child will treasure them.

Capturing memories is not a technical function. These are great. Thanks for taking them, I'm sure the mother will treasure them. And thanks for the post. We will be praying for them.

What beautiful photos. A friend of mine delivered her 8th baby on Nov. 28th...oddly enough, they named their baby Liliana (nn Lili). :) She was born at 35 weeks.

Glad to hear mom and baby are doing well!

Thanks for the comments again.

Good news, I believe Lilly has come home now, as she would have weighed enough. I saw her mum just over a week ago, and she only needed a couple more feeds to get over the minimum release weight.. I'll have to get some more shots soon. I did take some 2 weeks after these also. So there'll be 3 phases, and each one, she looks completely different. :)

Great shots. Reminds me of the years when I began having kids. I thanked God every day that I didn't have the trials that others have faced so bravely. Very moving!

Absolutely wonderful pictures. Medicine has come such along way. 1980 was our year to feel the frustration of being able to do nothing for our twin boys born at 6 and half months. Jamie and Jeremy lived 19 and 21 days respectively. All we have are some faded polaroid pictures and hearts full of memories. These pictures will be treasured I am sure. Thanks for sharing.

Great shots. My great nephew was born at 27 weeks on the side of the road in the middle of the night. (2lb 7oz) Spent three months in the hospital. Conner just turned 7 years old and is a healthy happy boy. I have a 35mm film shot like yours. Miracles do happen. :)
