I have just about decided to buy a 52mm lens adapter and the reason is that I am finding many generic 52mm 2X and wide angle lenses on ebay for very little money
-- As in Ambico 2X with 52mm threads for $15. Another plus is that from what I've seen the 52 MM adapter and lenses do not block the AF detector and block the viewfinder as much. I see vignetting is more of a problem with the 52 mm versus 58 mm system - Does anyone feel like they need to talk me out of this plan?
Thanks so much!

You are aware that when using the wide angle lens(or any other lens accesory you cannot really use the viewfinder. This is not an SLR camera. ~_'

Could you elaborate on that. I'm planning on at least a telephoto adapter. How does that or UV,skylight, polarizer,or other adapters effect the viewfinder use??

Im told the adapter blocks a part of the view finder and the AF assist beam. But still have basic question as to buying the 52 mm instead of 58 mm

This has been hashed over in several threads, but the basics as I understand are:
1) When would you use a teleconverter? Probably not up close, so most of the flash blockage is irrelevant. You can manually set the focus in most modes, so the AF assist beam can be worked around.
2) True, "this isn't an SLR" but it sure does have the feel of an SLR to me, since I almost never use the viewfinder.
3) 52mm vs. 58mm? I'm looking at getting the new 1.7x TCON-17 (replacement for the Olympus B-300) which has 55mm threads. I will use this with a 58mm adapter and step-down ring to alleviate as much vignetting as possible. But for daily use I'm going to get the 52mm LensMate (probably) with a UV filter, since it may come into play with flash and close-range auto-focus.

See the LensMate site to view some blockage issues:

Hope this helps some.

texanandproud,

A $15 2X lens? I would suspect it's a waste of your money. Considering good quality teleconverters run $75 to $100, I'd guess the principle "you get what you pay for" would apply here.

I'm using my camera for the best pictures I can get, and if that means using a 52mm or a 58mm lens adapter size to accomodate added lenses, whatever it takes for the best photo quality I can get, that's the set-up I'm going to use.

If you're "proud" of your G3--don't get the cheapie lens!

texanandproud,

please think thrice before u purchase that $15 lenses. I am aware of those cheap lenses in ebay, but i choose to invest on a $100 lenses instead, which cost 8x more.
I always believe in paying a little bit more to get a better service, as for lenses, a better picture.

But maybe u can get 1 for fun.

my 2 cents.
