G5(another talk w/canon rep : more info)

I just had another conversation with canon rep at my local Micro Center. He told me he knew the spec for the G5 but couldn't tell me!!! So I just kept asking him some questions and according to him G5 will have 8x optical zoom and the size will be same as G3. He also told me that 5mp will be around $600 and 6mp will be around $800. When I asked him if the info were just a rumor, he said his info were 99.9% accurate and that he's sorry for not being able to tell me anything more about G5. Man, I just got my G3 yesterday and I can't return it because they'll charge me a 15% restocking fee!!!

Any idea on the release date? I only just bought my G3 this Friday and if the release date is really June 1st I'll be pretty gutted. I suppose I could return it within a week...

G5 has little differences from G3, and IMHO has the same CCD as S50 (1/1.8")

It only has a 4x optical Zoom? I'd heard it was going to be 6x or even 8x?

Why do they think people will upgrade (unless it fits into a jam jar)?

This confirms an ealier post I made regarding the new "G". There will be two new G's, the G5 with 5 mp and the G6 with 6mp. Canon will skip over a G4 due to confusion of mp size and the Apple computer. Also the retailers due have advance information in their hands including photos.
