hi all

firstly, just out of interest, how does IS work?

secondly does anyone know any really good sites to explain photoshop techniques and digital photography in general. In depth yet explained simply and to the point etc.

thanks

Canon says:

In response to the angle of the lens' optical shake, the compensating optical system (gyro unit and shifting optical system) moves in parallel to cancel out the shake. The result is equivalent to using a shutter speed two stops faster.

Try www.luminous-landscape.com.

Hi,

Canon has a nice site http://www.canon.com/camera-museum/tech/index.html explaining many technical innovations they have made, in animations and text. IS is also explained there in detail.

One of the best sites I've found for Photoshop tips and techniques is Russell Brown's.

http://www.russellbrown.com/

There you will find all kinds of PDF files and Quicktime Movies that teach you how to use Photoshop. Russell is a great teacher and the site is free. Click on Tips & Techniques and when you've finished with those click on "More Tips".

You might also try Adobe's site. Lots of good stuff there.

Adobe's own user forum is excellent just to browse or add your own questions. They can occaisionally be a bit grouchy to "Newbies" but, you just have to stick it out!

Oh, then there's this forum - the best! 8)

I just went to look at that Web Site - Wow! Don't have broadband but will download some of the movies. Probably be able to report back in a couple of years!

Here's a 'Digital Imaging & Editing Tips' collection of links that's an ongoing project for me. Hope it helps:
