This is a picture of a historic train. It's called Puffing Billy. It's an old Steam train dating back to the 1920's that is today used to transport tourists through the foresty areas of Melbourne up into the hills on scenic trips. I happened to be up where this train goes to today and took some photos of it at rest awaiting another trip. Any comments would be appreciated. Was taken hand-held too.

actually, that Can't even touch the NYC 21st Limited, unless it was on it's VERY first trip.

I can't say anything negative. It is a beautiful, clean engine. the colors are great, the exposure is right-on. could up the exposure 1/3 stop and see what happens, but I think that would weaken the richness of the colors.

I suppose that there are more artistic shots of the same engine somewhere, but as a train-lover, I see this as artistically as anybody. The engine is the art.

hey thanks.. thats better :) appreciated. Yeah is a clean steam engine. Kept clean for the tourists I guess. On the say the train didn't move while I was there. It hooked onto the carriges from the front so when it left the station it would have been going backwards and I thought a backwards train wouldn't have made a good picture so sorry, no pics of it moving.

It's a pretty shot! People saw it. That's about the best that you can hope for from most of these guys.

I'd like to see details, cranks, bearings, connecting rods...
Next time you see Billy, some closeups, please?
Your portrait is beautifully lighted and composed.
He looks like part of the local fauna rather than the Clean Machine he really is....

HAha yeah it does kind of blend in. I do have a few other pics of it up close however I didn't get much of a chance as it was about due to hookup and take off. I'll remember that next time i'm up there.

I was almost tempted to ask the conductor if i could come inside and have a look. I have a couple of other pics from that day here if your interested.
