Thank you all for your encouraging comments.
With the slow shutters and even slower auto-focusing of our compact superzooms we usually have to really work for our gallery shots. But the long focal lengths and short minimum focus distances of these small-sensor cameras really help us get a lot of pixels on the birds.
toadallymissy - We are big advocates of backyard birding, and I would try to encourage you by saying that your wish is your own command. It takes time to attract a lot of birds to your yard or garden. But providing them with fresh water, healthy foods, and a variety of plants and trees for cover will eventually bring many lovely birds within reach of your lens. I think most folks have lots more birds near their homes than they ever see. We've spent years watching ours and trying to give them every reason to visit us... and we have photographed 70 species (so far) from the comfort of our deck.
Thanks again everybody, and happy birding to you all.

A simply wonderful series Kenn. It just goes to show you that it is the artist, not the equipment.

Hello Kenn and Temple,
Another really (excellent) set of your by. The Robin has real nice texture, the Titmouse as well. I usually hve a hard time with those guys, they are either moving too fast or have a oilley or mottled look to them.
Excellent set Kenn and Temple, thats an amazing camera worked well, Well done too both of you!

Thanks Lil, Dave, Kraig, Bret, Sue, kurmisosh, and bettyn... we really appreciate your comments.
Betty - I suspect you might be disappointed to see our simple setups... We have a variety of moveable driftwood pieces and some dead branches stuck into our planters. We locate these perches around the deck in various places to take advantage of changing sunlight and background angles, and then just shoot as opportunities arise with our birds coming and going to the feeders. And we have some nearby trees and bushes which also provide many reachable shots. We've been photographing them everyday for years and many of our birds are well-acclimated to our being amongst them, which allows us to get a lot of close-ups without having to conceal ourselves.
I think most people have many more birds around their homes than they realize. Simply tending to and observing them consistently over the years has allowed us to photograph 70 species right from the comfort of our deck.
Thanks again all, and happy birding.
