Hey all! I have noticed there are four different little shades...the hoodman, screen shade, the one that looks like an optical viewfinder which also looks like a pain in the butt to put on and also ebay has one from 47st. photo. I am curious as to which one you guys' have and which one works the best. I am outside a lot and am looking for the best one overall.

Don't have one myself, but these have been discussed here previously...if you search on the brands you describe you'll find some good info...

I recently wrote Screen Shade about their product, lamenting the fact that you must stick stuff on your camera:
"Have you considered a slip-on type attachment for the Canon G series? Your product really looks interesting and I could use the magnifier!! (But the screen closes inward, protecting the LCD.)"
His response:
"Thanks for the suggestion. We're looking into making a slip-on Screen Shade. It may be 6 months or so until it comes to market. In the meantime, you can adapt our existing Screen Shade by attaching an elastic strap.

That's what I had in mind doing anyway, just wanted to know if it was in the works.

wow, I guess I'm not really excited about adhering anything to camera either. So with the elastic did it work out for you, or does it slip off a lot? I like how it collapses, but am wondering if the hoodman would be more sturdy?

Haven't got one yet. I'm actually thinking of rigging my own. Don't know...

I have the Hoodman. Basically you could only attach it with the LCD opened to the left. It needs some practice to attach and remove it, once it becomes a habit, it just like putting on and off the lens cap, of course need extra time for the Hoodman. :p

getg3,
Why, does it need to get dressed in the mornings? LMAO
I have tried both, Screen-Shade and Hoodman, I prefer Screen-Shade, it is nice to me and I didn't like the feel of Hoodman and I really did not like they way it attached to my camera, I could never seem to get it on correctly.

Niloligist,
There is no easy way until Canon comes up with an internal hood that can be retracted out when needed. I know Hoodman is not perfect, but at lease it serves the purpose of better viewing of the LCD if attached correctly with the velcro wrapped around the back of the LCD.
Smile, always.:)

getg3,
Ok, so does Screen-Shade, just a matter of preference. Now, smile....
