Metal guitar virtuoso, Yngwie Malmsteen, performed a two hour set on November 1, 2011 at The House of Blues in Houston, TX.

He pulled out all his tricks including his trademark high kicks, half splits, slinging the guitar behind his back, tossing it in the air, playing behind his head and with his teeth.

He put on a good set for the several hundred die-hard fans who came out to the show.

According to the lighting tech, Yngwie does not like much front lighting, white spotlights, blues or greens so that pretty much leaves us with red, purple and orange which are some of the most non-flattering colors out there. They are also some of the most difficult to shoot. Converting these to black and white was not an option.

The Houston Press has a full review (http://blogs.houstonpress.com/rocks/2011/11/last_night_yngwie_malmsteen_at.php) of the show (not my photos) and I have some photos posted on SoundSpike (http://www.soundspike.com/photos/1380/yngwie-malmsteen-in-houston/). I also have a few on my Flickr (http://www.flickr.com/photos/groovehouse/sets/72157627912545261/detail/).

I'm sure only one head and maybe 2 cabs are live. And yeah, glad I'm not shlepping them from truck to stage and back either!

To the OP: Thanks for sharing shots. He's definitely one of my guitar heroes. Heck, I even play a '69 vintage white strat too!

It's my pleasure to share these with the forum. I hope to be able to post more.

As far as Marshall's that were live, there was only one cab that was mic'd. But there were four heads that had the red operating light on. So take that for what it's worth.

I will say this, they did play one of the loudest shows at the House of Blues that I have witnessed.

nice shots Groove...good to see you over here. this place could use some life!

it's easier to comment on photos if you number them. I dig 4 the best, and 1 and 3 are nice too. looks to me like there might be enough tones to b/w them?

Numbering photos, noted!

There are definitely enough tones to b/w them, unfortunately, for my client, b/w is not an option which is why the heavy red/purple lights were not a welcome shooting obstacle.

Thanks for the feedback!

Nice images, but edits could be improved IMO. :)
