I just bought a Canon G3 on Friday...I want to buy a larger card for it, I have been looking at 256mb cards...Whats the difference in the cards, some that say "Ultra" are very expensive compared to the "normal" cards. Will I be able to tell the difference between the 2 cards? Thanks...

I'm so far from an expert it's not funny, but I've seen on this forum that with the G3 the Ultra is overkill. I found a 256mb for $53.99 with a $20.00 rebate. Check it ouhttp://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0000630TO/104-8682911-1528715?v=glance&s=electronics&vi=special-offers&m=ATVPDKIKX0DERt.

I found the opposite as far as reviews here. Before I started shopping for a high-speed card I did a search and found quite a few praises here about the Sandisk Ultra. Niloligist is one I can remember who mentions about the noticeable speed gain.

I recently attended the Nikon Digital Photograpy School and the question was posed "does the speed of the card matter?"
We were told that in single frame shooting the card speed doesn't matter. That is because as son as the picture is taken it is dumped to a buffer and then to the card. You have no control over anything up to and including the buffer since that is internal to the camera. When doing continuous shooting however card speed does matter, since the buffer can fill up and now speed is controlled by the ability of the card to accept data from the buffer.
By the way Nikon uses the Lexar brand and a Lexar 12X 256 mbyte card is $43 (after rebate) at http://www.pcmall.com/pcmall/shop/detail.asp?dpno=966443&adcampaign=email,pwb01237
