Hello.

I´m plannig to buy a 10D within a few weeks, but when I check the internet I see this huge price difference, compared to the price in the Netherlands (sometimes up to € 600.-).
Has anyone any experience with ordering on the internet with online shops like digitalrev.com (hong kong).

cheers, Hans Spieringhs

I buy over the internet for computer parts exclusively. I've never had a problem,. however I am in the US and have never ordered anything internationally. That may be a totally different scenario.

well that´s just exactly my problem. Most of those offers are in the US or as far as Hong kong, so I would be ordereing internationally.
So I would really like to know If anyone has some xp in ordering internationally.

cheers

I've bought and sold many items internationally. The first thing to do is to check up on customs duties. It would be a shame to go to all that trouble and then find out that your incoming customs is diligent about charging you more than you saved. I put diligent in there because some customs departments in theory will charge you as much or more than you'd save, but they only bother with a fraction of all packages so the odds are still on your side. Check forums etc. for reliability of an individual dealer. In any country some dealers are really good and some are bad.

Use an international courier like fed-ex for extra comfort. Postal service tracking services typically don't work very well or not at all internationally. The package probably gets there about as reliably with the postal services but you'll spend more time worrying about where it is.

I can recommend B&H or Adorama both in New York.

Hans, please be aware that you still need to pay VAT when you ship internationally. I have ordered from the US and Hong Kong without problems. I go to the US this summer and back through Holland. Willing to smuggle for you to avoid tax.

I've seen the D10 on e-bay for £1,049 ish from Hong Kong. Your biggest worry would be over the garuntee. Canon UK will NOT touch your camera with a barge pole with a garuntee from Hong Kong. Also it is breach of copyright for Canon Hong Kong to 'sell' the booklet that comes with your camera in the UK. Strange rules but there you go.

Go to digitaldepot.co.uk for the best price on the D10 from good old Wiltshire for an extra £200 all above board

I live in New Zealand and have purchased photographic stuff from PC Connection and B&H in the USA. Everything arrived on time, were as described and were well packed.

I've got another item in the air from Midwest Photo Exchange at the moment and expect it will be the same deal.

Hello

Thanx for the replies. Today I went to the local strore, to have a talk with the manager. The price he offered me is not the cheapest, but it would give me a full warranty. And buying the camera here will also give me the possibility to pay for it in installments.
So I think this is the best thing to do.

btw. If a camera bought somewhere else is brought to cannon for repairs, cannon would charge an extra € 240,- (ouch).

cheers
