There seems to be some confusion over the off camera flash cable between the 10D and the 550EX. To mount the 550 on a bracket, and connect to the 10D retaining all functions, what cable is required please?
Anyone know?

The correct cable is Canon Off-Camera Shoe Cord 2.

I have one on my flash bracket right now.

Or you can be real trendy and go wireless with the ST-E2. This little wireless transmitter slips on the hotshoe and will fire a 550EX or 420EX and allows you to fire one or more flashes remotely when using things like umbrellas. For most purposes the off-shoe cord is the right solution.

Correct. When I was getting set up, I got the 550EX and the ST-E2, thinking that I needed to be wireless. All that works fine. Then I discovered that for most purposes, the off-shoe cable works fine as long as I have a good bracket. It just depends on what you are trying to do and how many sources of light you are trying to work with.

Laughing ....

For the price of ONE ST-E2 you get TWO SIGMA-flashes ...

And what would I do with two Sigma flashes? Set the camera to bulb and fire the second one manually?

The main advantage of wireless flash is to be able to move the flash off the camera without tripping over wires. I shoot a lot of portraits. I place one or two 550ex's on light stands with umbrellas or lightboxes. On each flash I dial in between full power and 1/128th power. I put the ST-E2 on my 10D's hot shoe. I can shoot on a tripod or hand-hold the camera. I can move around and my subject can move around. It gives a very nice look.

Try that with two Sigmas.

What sort of aperature and shutter settings are you getting when using two 550EX with light boxes or umbrellas on stands on the wireless system?

Just curious to know how powerful they are compared to the full blown studio flash setups.
