Just read an article on the D10 stated how good it was etc etc but the pros do not use them because it has no firewall.

I'm learning from day to day about digital photography but what is a firewall and why should this effect pros purchasing such a lovely camera (I've used one for hour and a half! and the colour is as good as film)

Are you sure you weren't reading an article about a router? :D

Is this article on-line?

I think you might mean Firewire not Firewall. Firewire is an extra-fast connection for peripheral devices. A firewall is a kind of virus/hacking protection software that computers use. I don't think that's a reason why pros won't use the 10D. There are a number of other factors that set the 1Ds apart from the 10D not least being that it is a "full-frame" sensor.

Anyway, hands up those "pros" that use a 10D? 8)

A firewall, these days, is either some software or hardware/software which is used to shield a computer system or network from malicious behavior (hackers, viruses) when connected to the world wide web. In the context of the D10 it's not making much sense to me. What was the article?

[Sheesh! When I started typing there were no replies! Yeah, what Martcol said...]

Strange. The original poster asked about a "D10", and everybody answers something about a "10D", since this is a Canon group. You would think that people would figure it out after a while.

My guess is Firewire not firewall. And I never download images directly from the camera. I always take the CF card out, pop it in my Firewire card reader, and download the images to my computer's harddrive. So, for all practical purposes, my 10D has Firewire ;-)

I'm a professional photographer and I use a 10D mostly for shooting PR and Editorial stuff.

Isn't "D10" simply the European badging of the "10D"? Or did I miss something?

[[[[[ I'll answer my own question: Looks like there's a lot of confused resellers in Europe. When you actually look on official Canon sites (eg: in Switzerland), the product is listed as 10D. But there's a heck of a lot of sites calling it a D10 and some nominating BOTH terms for the same camera! ]]]]]

10D is 10D also in Europe and firewall doesn't exist in any camera. It's FireWire :)
I'm also a professional potographer and I shoot digital with D60 and I use FireWire card reader without any problems.

I am using my 10D as a router :-) j/k

Anyways, yah most likely you (or they... which would be more scarry) means firewire... even though everyone else answered it, gosh I really wish it did have firewire, oh well I will just have to get a CF card reader eventually.

Yeah, yeah,Yeah I meant Firewire, thanks so much for all your replies, it is just I see no pros with a 10D D10 whatever!!

I read this article in WHSmiths in a digital magazine(don't know which one but have a look at them all)

I want a D10 but I think I'm looking at decmber time. Until them I'll strugle along with my good ol' DCS 520!

Bloody Firewall...

Well there are a lot of pros to the 10D,. and Firewire would add very littl in my opinion. I have never and probably will never attach my difital cameras directly to a PC. I find the idea repulsive! :D

I use a card reader all the time,. so if I want firewire or USB 2 then that is the extra $35.00 I will spend on a reader.

The Idea that a $35.00 accesory will keep WHSmith's digital magazine from investing in a $1,500.00 Camera is odd to me?

The advances in focusing speed and color rendition are far more important than what port (that I will never use) that the camera comes equipped with.

Well what port isnt important, but the speed is, but yah I will get a CF card reader sometime... but still after buying the camera I am still low on cash.

I do not utilise the firewire port on my 1D as I use a firewire card reader but needed to use it when I updated the firmware to 1.4 (very quick!) ....Just one question though....Difital...Dya think it'll catch on?? ;¬)..
