Where to print depends on where you are :) My local guys here in Auckland will do up to 10x15 on real photo paper, and up to A0 on an inkjet

As for min resolution, that really depends. A rule of thumb is allow 240-300 dpi, so for a 8x10, you require an image 1920x2400 minimum. But the question you have to ask is what is the viewing distance, I have had images up to A1, that look fine at the intended viewing distance that do not adhere to this rule.

And finally for file format, if you mean RAW as in a CRW, or CR2 file, most photo printing places don't deal with those, JPG, or TIF are usually OK.

The general rule of thumb is that a large print should not be viewed at any distance less than the diagonal dimension of the print. With that in mind, you will find that there is a sliding scale of what resolution constitutes a good print.

For small prints, you might strive to have 300 DPI or more. For medium prints, you might settle for 200 DPI or so. For really large ones, you might settle for only 100 DPI.

FlyingPete - who are your 'local guys', and what do they charge for a 10x15?

Im looking a for a new retail store to do my prints, as my current one costs me $6 for a 5x7, my favourite size. my second most popular size is 8x12/8x10 which sets me back $20 a pop.

US$10 for a 20x30 inch - http://www.elcocolor.com/hot_internet_only_specials.htm - I have a few and they're great, shipping to NZ like US$20. Three prints cost me like $80 (guessing), printing them in NZ would've cost about $450. An alternative is nulab.com.au who do similarly priced prints, but they're a pro lab who service higher volume pros - they might take one off orders not sure.

Chris - JPG is fine, my 20x30's were done from Q12 JPG and they look fantastic. I'd print at any size from my 20D with no worries, so long as you're a reasonable viewing distance it'll be fine. A friend of mine's done billboards from 20D shots that look fine from a bit of a distance away.

I've done two elco 20x30 prints from my 300D, and they looked great. the annoying thing was they were only on my wall for 1 day, before somebody saw them and bought them!

Print more, prints are getting so cheap if you buy from that place I linked to.

I should really start asking for a commission, I link to so many different places and vendors on such a regular basis i'm probably making them a bit of $!

A 30x60 would be interesting, shame about the ratio - how about a 40x60?! I'd probably do 30x45 if I had a full frame to print - just send the image with extra white along one side - and I really wouldn't want to be cropping before I print, I want all the pixels I can get!

They do 5x7's at $1.45 one offs, 8x10's $6.95 one offs, 8x12's $8.95 one offs, 10x15's are $14.95 for one off's (that one drops to $6.95 each at 100+!). Those are from a Fuji Digital Frontier, after that they go long life inkjet up to A1 ($79.95), they do canvas and other stuff as well. Also there are bulk price breaks at 5+, 20+ and 100+, and the images don't have to be identical!

Been using these guys now for over 5 years!

Costco prints
http://forums.naturephotographers.net/6/ubb.x?a=tpc&s=8306088241&f=25110141&m=15110874

If you have a Costco in your area, I'd recommend them for the quality, prices, "NO corrections" profile options, & speed of service. A 12" X 18" print is $2.99US. I can upload at night & pick prints up in the AM. I can't speak to their mail options.

If you upload pic files you can pick up the prints at your local store. Just before clicking on "Place Order" at the end, click on "Options - Edit Options" for back printing & to turn AutoCorrect off. If you order at the store, tell them to turn AutoCorrect off.

My store never turns it on! You can also change some of the printing options on the back there. There's plenty of room for © 2005 XXXX XXXXX.

"What would be the proper color space to save it in to take it to Costco?"
