hello.
Can you guys maybe shed some light on photo resizing? I take quite a few concert photos and would like to resize them for both the web and for printing. I have a cannon powershot s50 that I take the pictures with.
I would like to know the best way to resize. I use Photoshop. Is just using image size.. option and choosing, for example, 40% the best way? Should I be changing the resolution? It seems the resolution always is 180 pixels/inch.
An example of an image I am resizing would be http://www.phixation.com/IMG_9485.JPG
I know it's not a great photo to begin with..always have bad camera shake at concerts.
Pretty much, can someone tell me what should be done to get the best quality prints?
Thanks a ton.

personally, i use flickr to upload my photos to web. i keep all of my originals full-size for printing so i get the least amount of pixelation possible, and then upload the ones i want on the web to flickr using an automatic upload/resizer. you can create a photoshop action to resize them to say, 640x480 or so, and do it in batches for web uploading, but i always print from full-size originals.

if you are using photoshop and you want to print, dont resize the image, un click resample image from the image size menu and punch in the print size you want to print at, adn the resolution will change accordingly. If you want to save diskspace, then after you have done thatm you can then click resample image and enter 300 for resolution, assuming that number was bigger than 300 of coarse.

Okay, so if wanting to print just change the size to the printed size. without using the resample option.
Now lets say I am doing some cropping of the image and saving it for the web. What exactly does changing the image size w/o resampling do?
If wanting to resize it for the web you want to be resmapling right? And then just change it to the size i want it on the web? Can you explain how this works if you could?
What if it's not 300? What exactly does the resolution do?
Thanks again

resolution is useless for web, you are really looking for pixels total, resolution is fixed no matter what your file says, so yes, click resample, and choose the pixel dimensions you want for web. print is opposite, it is resolution which counts, so in print if your file is 300 by 300 at 300 dpi, you will get 1 inch by 1 inch picture at a great resolution, but if you enter 2 inches as your choice for size, and you dont resample, you will get 150 dpi, a bigger photo but at half the resolution, the web would give you the same rsult for both, it only cares about the 300 pixels that exist.
