Hi, this is one of the first pictures I've taken with my new G3, some birds taken outside my kitchen using the full zoom, just cropped in Photoshop. I'm learning alot already from reading the posts from this forum, (I went from a simple point and shoot Kodak 3400 and don't have much of a clue yet about the settings I can use).

Have a great day,
Sue

Wow! Nice, colorful birds! :) And they were sitting outside your window? Where do you live, if you don't mind my asking? I wish we had birds like that in my neck of the woods. All I get to see out my window are sparrows, robins and crows.

Geez, yeah, do you live in an aviary!? :-)

They remind me of some birds I saw on a show about Australia...but I didn't detect a down-under accent in your post. :-)

G'day.

Thanks, I am from Australia, on the south coast of NSW in a town called Mollymook Beach. The lorikeets swarm at you for food when you walk outside and theyll sit on your hands eating bread. They're actually real pests but so easy to get shots of. We also get rosellas and king parrots but they aren't as tame. Hopefully I will get some pics of them as well, and my 2 cats.

Ahh, so I did pick up a bit of a lilt, subconsciously. :-)

Just read a great book on your country, by Bill Bryson - "In a Sunburned Country." You guys really did a job on him - he is clearly in love w/your land and people. (Although he did go on a bit, in a quite hilarious way, about all the beasts, reptiles, and insects in Australia that can kill you.)

We have something called the "Lorikeet Landing" here in San Diego at the Wild Animal Park. You can go in and feed them w/nectar cups. It's almost dangerous - they are so aggressive about going after the food. :-)

Cute birds, but really poor table manners.

Looking forward to more shots of your country and flora and fauna!

Wow, what a great coincidence! I once owned a Kodak 3400 and wow, converting to G3 was a great big leap and you'll never ever want to touch the 3400 again!

PacAce,

All I see are dirty rude pigeons. The pigeons in NYC don't even both to move out of your way anymore. The gulls in Long Island, chase you to your car.

Our wildlife will be carrying guns soon.

LOL

Frederique, funny you should mention the pigeons and the sea gulls. I was in Baltimore the previous weekend (not this past weekend but the one before that) when they were celebrating Preakness Celebration 2003 and I saw a bunch of pigeons and sea gulls and an "odd couple" pair of ducks at the Inner Harbor. They were all well behaved and one sea gull even posed for me as I took many shots of it. I was using the shorter 28-135mm zoom on my 10D so I couldn't really fill the frame with the sea gull so I had to move in closer to it. I was literally right up to his face and he still just sat there while I took more pictures of it.

If you'd like to see a picture or two of this sea gull, please visit my newly constructed, but still under construction, gallery.

These birds are gorgeous!!! I want to move there. It is so boring around here. I just got my new G3 and have nothing to photograph! I feel a trip coming on (although not to Austrailia - too expensive : (

You're right, it's too expensive here, although you'd instantly double your money with the exchange rate. Thanks for all your posts, now off to play some more with my camera.
