I don't want to make myself look like an idiot but here goes.

I just got my 10D a couple of weeks ago and it is proving far more difficult than I had imagined. The problem that I am having is getting decent colors in the shots. I have read the manual thoroughly and set the white balance and tried multiple changes of the color temperature but I still get a general blue hue to the shots.

Is there an easy way to determine what the color temperature should be set at. I would really like this thing to get done as my son and I are off to the Montreal Grand Prix in a few weeks and want to take some action shots there.

have you tried re-setting the camera to the original factory settings?

I messed up my camera by playing around with with buttons and had similiar results.

no problems since I "rebooted" it.

The first step I allways take is to eliminate any other weak links in the chain.

Three questions:

Is the "blue hue" showing up on your computer monitor AND in prints? (wondering if you monitor or printer is the problem?)

Do you have more than one lens that you can try? (ie is the lens causing the blue hue,. unlikely I know,. but worth asking I guess)

Can you print directly from your camera to try and elimate the PC?

The suggestion below about getting back to the factory settings is right on. I've found them to be pretty good. The only time I use a custom white balance and adjust the temp is when I'm in a poorly lit arena and I'm using an ASA of 800+. I got a tip from SI that using a lower temp and custom white balancing will get good results and of course they were right on. My images will look blue on the camera screen, but are correct when I look at them on the PC. You may want to consider using the auto white balance and maybe the flash setting until you have a little more time to experiment.......
