I am a D60 user and I have the 550EX flash. Except for the occasional bit of user stupidity, I have no trouble with it at all.
If you want advice about this, start by listing all of the settings that you have in the camera and in the flash unit. One of us should be able to see if anything is wrong with settings. Without that, we are flying blind and wasting our time.
First of all, did you read the D60 manual about flash?
Second, did you read the 550EX manual?

Did you really mean 550EZ?
If so, it ain't compatible with the D60 and can only be used in manual mode. The D60 only has E-TTL and manual, the EZ flashes are not E-TTL.

I have a 380 on a D60 and have the same problem. I am thinking it is the auto mode of the camera and not the flash however.
One shot will be exposed perfectly - the next 2 way underexposed - then another good one - then an overexposure. It's very irritating.
When I stick the thing in manual it stays constant.... but in many situations there is no time for determining a proper manual exposure. I need to go auto and it is just not reliable.
Could be my fault in not being careful with the spot metering? I don't know, have not really figured out what the heck makes it do that, but I will be watching for advice on this discussion....

These is no such thing as a "550EZ". There is a 540EZ which is not really compatible with a D60 or 10D--it will work but will not be fully automted. The 550EX is fully compatilbe with both cameras. It is a very good, very powerful flash. Read the manual and read any threads you can find at Photo.net for more info.

Hi guys,
thanks for all your comments.
yeap its, 550 ez, it is the only flash whic works with D60.
i normally leave the settings on
Manual Zoom,.. on 35mm
+ 1/2 stop
i dont like auto zoom as it give more power whn i dont want to.
and +1/2 to compasate while using manual zoom..
hope i am clear on..
i work as a press photographer and these are the best settings i have worked out...
if i use the same settings on film camera... the pics come out fine
but with digital.. the flashes are all ver the place..
lets hope canon sort this problem out.
i know nikon sb 20 flash was all over the place with nikon d1 and d1x till they brough out sb 40 or something like tht, which is much better..
any thoughts let me knw..
cheers

Check one more time.
This is probably not a 550 EZ.
This is probably the 550 EX. This 550 EX is compatible with a D60 camera.
My question still stands.
