Wow, we just visited Shugborough Hall in early June, else I wouldn't have had a clue who he was. My father-in-law lives a twenty-minute walk from the estate, in Great Haywood - he has been there for yonks. He told us a good bit about the history of the family and the estate. Thanks for bringing this up - I told my wife. She's been to Shugborough many times. I got to help a couple of narrow boats with the locks on the walk to and from - beautiful part of a beautiful country. We'll include him and his in our thoughts.

Yes indeed. I'm not a royalist but I respected Patrick Lichfield for becoming accepted as a true professional photographer and one who distinguished himself by excelling in a multiplicity of different types of work from glamour, showbiz and fashion through to occasions such as royal weddings and official portraits.
Whenever I saw him on TV, he always came over as a very knowledgeable, genuine and kind sort of man. Let's also remember that he championed digital photography and didn't use film during the last five years of his career.

It is indeed sad news. Also just to say there's also a parallel thread in General Chat: http://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=112323 if you want to read some of the other tributes.

Very sad news, I met him at a function in London about 10 years ago, I was being awarded a scholarship from Lord Snowdon and he introduced him to me, very nice man he was, he will be missed.

I once had lunch with him on the top deck of a London bus, on a film set; after which he went to shoot some pix of Paula Hamilton and Liz Hurley. He was an extremely down-to-earth guy and very good company (although I did, for a reprehensible moment, think about half-inching his unattended suitcase full of Bronicas!). Never a groundbreaking photographer but definitely a reliable, totally professional and imaginative smudger
