You pretty much press the button like you do with digital. Was there a specific question you had in mind?

I am taking a B&W film class just to learn the basics, I find it very time consuming and exspensive. But because i dont know how to use PS the amount of control in the dark room while enlarging the pics is wonderful . I barrowed the film camera because I just purchaced my XT and I know I will soon leave film behind. But for learning basic photography I think it has been time well spent. As a kid my dad was a free lance photographer and we spent hours in the dark room, The smell of the chemicals is to me as the smell of home cooked brownies to some one eles. I love it. Renda

welcome

Outside of the other "advantages" of film is that you have to wait for it to be processed, so you're encouraged to take extra time to get it right the 1st time. Main advantage of digital is that you can see a small pic right away to know what you got & can shoot like crazy 'cause it doesn't cost anything. Eventually you'll find a middle ground that will work well for you.
I like my film B&W & color shots better than my digital ones because, to me, they just look better. OTOH, I haven't shot film since I got the 300D, & I like the digital stuff too, even though it had a different "look".
Use both, & find the right media for you. And have fun. ;)

If I remember correctly, in order to get this type of quotes, I had to edit my profile to use a different editor.

This is not an answer to your question, but something you may want to try if you do go with film.

I recommend bypassing all the usual processing of the film in which you get prints from a machine. Instead, take your film to a processor who will develop the film and put the digitized images on CD. The cost is very nominal, and most processors (e.g., Walmart) offer the service. It gives you the opportunity to Photoshop your images and be "one of the guys" on this forum - Hi!

The best part of it is that the digitizing that they do in that service is around 2000 dpi, which is better than I can do with my Epson 1660 scanner - not to mention how tedious that is.

Just as using Photoshop to produce BW images for digital, there are different types of film for the many different types of BW images your trying to achieve. Each has it own unique difference in sharpness and contrast that can get you photos from crystal clear landscape to high-key portrait. All this without extra processing at the lab. I suggest you get some books and read, read, read. Robert_Lay has a good idea until you feel comfortable with taking your roll to a professional or you get to a point of developing it on your own. Most important... Have fun!

Here are the details on how to change your Editor:

Click on UserCP to change your profile and click on "Edit Options".

Look for the last screen which is headed "Miscellaneous Options" and in the drop down list for the editor, pick "Standard Editor - Extra formatting Controls".
