One more question guys,
I've read some issues in regards to serial numbers with the D10 and a rumored Bad Batch..is this something I should be aware of?
Is there something I should check when picking up the D10 from my local Fry's Electronics?
Thanks all

The worst case scenario seems to be that a limited few examples with the serial number beginning with "01" xxxx may have an issue with focus.
This IS NOT something that Canon is saying. This is based on information that is being traded on forums like this. There certainly were some poorly functioning units,. But it seems to be a limited problem at worst.

I think that the likelyhood of receiving one of these lemos is very slight,. but if you do want to be sure,.. you need only check the serial number on the bottom of the Camera and see if it starts with "01"

Mine functions perfectly as near as I can tell and mine starts with "03"

Are you trying to buy the D10 or the 10D?

Mine starts with 03 as well. I reckon that the Serial No. thing might be an Urban Myth - Like the focussing; a bit "Hit & Myth."

I also think that you have to be a bit cautious reading forums (is that fora?). When someone posts "I've got trouble with...." Who's going to reply? Don't get me wrong, I love this forum - it's the best - you've just got to chill. If you get the camera froma dealer and you walk in and pick it up, if it goes wrong you walk right back in and get it sorted.

Buy it!

Good luck. I just hope you don't get a ser. no. starting with 03 and a camera that won't focus! :D

I think you are referring to the Canon 10D? I don't think they have a D10, at least I have not heard of it.

If paranoid about focus issues, just perform the ruler test and get it over with after you get your 10D. A very small number, apparently randomly distributed have various problems. As all technology items do.

I doubt there is a bad batch as I got mine on day one of US availability and it auto focuses exactly on the line. So no factory problems that have not been identified by me as operator error.

I agree. The first time I saw an implication of a relationship between serial numbers and focus problems posted it appeared to be based on a sample size of two cameras (one trouble-free and one not.)

I've heard a few people talk about a ruler test. What exactly am I supposed to do?
Thanks

Charr5,. forget the ruler test ,... :)

If,.. IF after using your camera for a while,. and you feel a little comfortablke with it,. IF at that point you sus pect that there is some sort of focus probkem with the camera (and not the user :) )

... then maybe break out the ruler!

As others have staed,. the focus issue that has been discussed in these forums was pretty isolated. Thousands of these Cameras have been sold,. tens of thousands,. and I know of only one case where the Camera was proven to be at fault and replaced by Canon.

This issue gained such a high profile on this forum because our Host, Pekka, was the owner of that Camera. Bad luck for him :( and bad luck for Canon. (...of all the people Canon could sell a Lemon to it was to one of there strongest supporters! )

This is not to say that other Cameras haven't had the same problem. I've read of others with the same complaint. But still ,. at most maybe four people out of a possible thousands???

Don't worry about it.
